Percocet Addiction
Percocet is prescription drug that is used to treat chronic pain. It is an opiate narcotic and is a combination of acetaminophen and oxycodone, which makes it a potential prescription drug addiction candidate. When used for an extended period of time in high dosage it is very easy for Percocet addiction to prevail.
Symptoms of Percocet Use
Being an opiate, Percocet directly affects the central nervous system and creates the illusion of euphoria and relaxation from pain. Therefore, as the patient keeps on using the medication for a long period of time it, he starts craving the drug more and more to recreate the feeling of being ‘high’, simultaneously he starts increasing the drug to a dangerous level till the point where he cannot get through his day without taking the drug. That is why if a user does not get his dose of Percocet at the given time then he starts getting severe withdrawal symptoms. These Percocet withdrawal symptoms include sweating, nausea and vomiting, decreased rate in heartbeat, sleeplessness, difficulty in breathing, very low blood pressure. In severe addiction cases Percocet withdrawal can result in coma and respiratory arrest which can lead to death.
Percocet Detox
Percocet detox means getting rid of the drug addiction by weaning off the addictive medication. However, if one stops taking the medication abruptly without any professional help and counseling he may undergo uncomfortable Percocet withdrawal, which may be so difficult to handle that the user may be pushed to start taking the drug again in order to get rid of these withdrawal symptoms. Percocet withdrawal symptoms include anxiety, insomnia, fever, chronic abdominal pain, runny nose and eyes, sweating, muscular pain and flu like symptoms.
In order to allow the body to deal with these withdrawal symptoms, the patient is given suboxone treatment in the initial stage of the Percocet detox program. Suboxone helps the patient to slowly get off the medication without suffering the uncomfortable withdrawal symptoms.
